As a young teen I was most influenced by comic book artists Hal Foster, Jim Steranko and Frank Frazetta, and dreamt of one day becoming a comic book artist. By the age of 15 I was reading books by authors like Andre Norton, A.E. van Vogt, Bob Heinlein, Clarke and Asimov, and from that point on decided that one day I'd be doing paperback covers. I made my first attempt to break into graphic novels in 1982. Having been an avid reader of James Warren’s Publications: Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella, I approached them for work in their current monthly: 1984, but was told they weren't accepting any new work. They stopped publishing shortly thereafter, and to this day the loss of such an excellent medium for artists and writers of such caliber weighs much more heavily on me than the letter of rejection.
